Camel Trekking in Morocco: Erg Chebbi camel treks to sleep overnight in the dunes are the highlight of our Sahara desert tours and camel treks. We also offer Erg Chigaga camel treks. Camel Treks in Morocco range from one night to 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 4 day, 5 days.
Morocco camel treks are the highlight of our desert camel tours. Experience the Sahara at the leisurely pace of a camel, with a desert guide, camel trekking from Merzouga into the dunes of the Erg Chebbi sand sea. We also organise camel trekking in Erg Chigaga - a more remote desert wilderness that is home to the Ait Atta Berbers and herds of wild camels.
If you have your own transport we can meet you in Rissani or Erfoud and accompany you to Merzoug and the Erg Chebbi dunes. Or we can meet you on arrival into M'hamid if you prefer to camel trek in Erg Chigaga.
We organise desert tours with a driver, in Toyota Land Cruisers, from Marrakech, Fez, Casablanca, Marrakech to Fez and Fez to Marrakech. In addition we can organise local 4x4 Land Rover Safaris from Merzouga, Erfoud or Mhamid.
Because it is a full day's drive to either Erg Chebbi or Erg Chigaga we recommend 4 or 5 day Sahara tours from Marrakech, Fez, Tangier or Casablanca if possible. From Ouarzazate a 3 day desert trip is more easily achieved.
Waiting to be discoverd along the route, on a Sahara Desert Tour, are oasis valley gorges, abandoned kasbahs, traditional Berber villages and rose-filled gardens in Spring.

Merzouga Camel Treks
Sunset Erg Chebbi Camel Treks. Camel treks from Merzouga into the dunes to watch the sunset and return to your hotel on the dune line.
Overnight Erg Chebbi Camel Treks with sunset and morning camel rides. Camel Trek across the dunes to sleep under the stars in a Bedouin tent. Wake before dawn to watch the sunrise and camel trek back to Merzouga.

There are two sand seas in Morocco where you can camel trek with a guide: Erg Chebbi (Merzouga) and Erg Chigaga (Mhamid). Smaller dunes can be found at Zagora.
Erg Chebbi at Merzouga can be reached by road e.g. there is a tarmac road all the way to the base of the dunes and, from your hotel on the dune line, you can safely wander into the immediate dunes from one of the 70+ hotels along the dune line that offer en-suite rooms and swimming pools.
Erg Chigaga is more remote and is reached by camel (two day camel trek) or 4x4 from Mhamid. This is a protected area inhabited by the traditional semi-nomadic Ait Atta Berbers and we recommend this region for anyone wanting a 'real' Sahara experience.

Comfy, baggy clothes and, in winter, layers and a wind-proof jacket. Blankets are provided but a sleeping-bag liner is recommended in summer and a sleeping bag in autumn through spring; we provide a list of 'camel trekking' essentials.

How long you spend riding your camel is, to some extent, up to you i.e. an overnight camel trek is usually 1-1.5hrs each way; we can organise shorter or longer rides. If you are camel trekking over several days we recommend a mix of walking with your guide and riding your camel as sitting on a camel’s back all day is not the most comfortable way to pass the time.

If have limited time, but still want a desert experience, we offer a 3 day trip to Zagora that includes a camel trek to overnight in a Berber tent by the small dunes.
