Marrakech to Marrakech Sample Itinerary
Marrakech to Ait Benhaddou via Telouet
Transfer over the High Atlas Tizi-n-Tichka pass to Telouet and visit the abandoned Kasbah of the Pasha of the Glaoua. From Telouet cross the Tizi-n-Telouet (caravan trade route) through the Berber villages of the Ounila Valley and visit the World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou; the kasbah that once protected this lucrative trade route. Overnight Ait Benhaddou.
Ait Benhaddou to Dades Gorge via Skoura and Rose Valley
Transfer to Kelaa Mgouna where, in April and May, local children sell garlands of roses grown for their essential oil. Leave the highway and cross the Rose Valley Circuit. Re-join the tarmac in the Dades valley and continue past valley floor gardens, hilltop kasbahs and strange rock formations (Tamnalt hills) to the top of the Gorge. Overnight Dades Gorge.
Dades Gorge to Tamtattouchte across the Atlas
Transfer to Msemir and take the piste to Tamtattouchte, a Berber Village. Witness a nomadic way of life as you drive through the rugged beauty of the Atlas and stop for a glass of mint tea with a nomad family in their traditional wool tent. Overnight Tamtattouchte.
Tamtattouchte to Merzouga via Goulmima
Transfer to the desert village of Merzouga via remote Berber villages and Goulmima. Arrive in Merzouga and stay at a hotel on the edge of the Erg Chebbi sand sea; from here you can safely wander into the immediate dunes without a guide. Overnight Merzouga.
Merzouga to Zagora via Alnif and Nkob, or across the piste
Transfer to Zagora via the paved road or off-road across a piste that crosses dunes, riverbeds and rocky plateaus. Overnight Zagora.
Zagora to Erg Chigaga via Tamegroute and M'hamid
Transfer to the dunes of the Erg Chigaga via Tamegroute and M'hamid. Arrive at the edge of the dunes to camel trek in Erg Chigaga at sunset. Overnight desert camp in the dunes.
Erg Chigaga to Ouarzazate via Foum Zguid
Transfer across the piste to the desert oasis of Foum Zguid and then pick up the road to Ouarzazate. Overnight Ouarzazate.
Ouarzazate to Marrakech via the Tizi-n-Tichka Atlas Pass
Transfer to Marrakech, arriving in Marrakech in time to visit one of the greatest squares in North Africa: the Djemaa El Fna. Take you seat at one of the many stalls that light up the night sky of Marrakech and wait to be served affordable Moroccan cuisine including sheep head.
