Marrakech City Tours with an English speaking guide
Explore Marrakech, with a local English Guide, to discover the labyrinthine souks and the atmospheric Djemaa el Fna, one of the greatest Squares in Africa. Visit palaces and escape from the bustle of the city in the Majorelle Gardens.
Visit the Imperial City of Marrakech and arrange for a day tour with an English-speaking guide who will lead you through the maze of sites, sounds and smells while you lose yourself in the atmosphere.
Marrakech is immediately fascinating. Framed by the snowy peaks of the Atlas mountains, with rose-colored ramparts and a thousand year old palmerie, Marrakech is a great place to start and end your Morocco trip. Places of interest and possible excursions include:
- Discover the sights and sounds of the Djemaa El Fna, one of the greatest squares in Africa and a UNESCO World Heritage site. During the day wander amongst the tooth-pullers, snake charmers, water-sellers, storytellers, scribes, acrobats and fire-eaters. At night the square transforms to a festival atmosphere when a myriad of food stalls are wheeled in from the alleyways; their tables and benches illuminated by lamplight and wreathed in the smoke of one hundred Berber Barbeques.
- Explore the colourful souk where each trade has its own area e.g. the metal or wood quarters where proud artisans craft objects as their forefathers did centuries before them; the dyers quarter where colourful skeins of wool hang drying in the sunlight that streams into the narrow walkways; the carpet quarter where beautiful home-crafted Moroccan rugs hang like exquisite paintings; the jewellery quarter where glass-fronted windows glitter with 18ct gold; the spice quarter where merchants build conical mounds of multicoloured spices and the apothecary with lotions and potions for all nature of ailments.
- Visit the gardens and palaces (Majorelle, Badi Palace, Bahia Palace), the museums, the landmark Koutoubia Mosque, the ancient royal Saadien Tombs and the Medersa Ben Youssef.
- Shop! Moroccan décor/interior design is increasingly fashionable and many visitors carry home items with which to furnish their homes in traditional Moroccan style e.g. Moroccan lanterns, rugs, lampshades, leather poufs, decorative Fatima’s hands, tajines etc.
